If you’re looking for an exciting outdoor activity that’s fun, social, and relatively safe, try out flag football! It’s a great option for all ages. Even if you have never played before or don’t know the game rules, flag football is easy to learn. Let’s go over the basics so you can join in on the fun!

What is Flag Football?

Flag football is a version of American Football that removes the tackling element.

🏉
Instead of tackling one another, players attempt to pull off a velcro “flag” worn by their opponents.

The goal of this sport is to score points by moving the ball down the field and across the opponent's goal line. It can be played in a park, school yard, or even your own backyard!

How to Play Flag Football?

The game is divided into two teams of 5-7 players each. Each team has an offensive side which attempts to move the ball downfield towards their opponent's goal line, and a defensive side which works together to prevent them from scoring points.

The offensive team player with the ball can run with it or throw it to another teammate while being chased by defenders who are trying to grab their flags. The team with more points at the end of the game wins!

How to Score Points and Have Fun!

Are you a fan of football, but don’t like the physicality that comes with regular tackle football? Flag football might be the perfect sport for you. Flag football is an intense, yet non-contact version of America's favorite game that is great for people of all ages and skill levels. But how do you actually score points in flag football? Let’s dive in and find out!

Touchdowns (6 points)

The goal of any offensive team is to get their hands on the ball and bring it into their opponent’s end zone. This is known as a touchdown, which is worth 6 points. The player with the ball must break the plane of the end zone with possession or his team will not be credited with a touchdown.

Extra Point Conversion (1 - 2 points)

After scoring a touchdown, teams may attempt to score an extra point by running or passing the ball into their opponent’s end zone from the 3-yard line. If successful, this will result in 1 extra point or 2 extra points by passing.

Equipment Needed

All you need are some flags, two cones or markers to mark each end zone and a football. Wear comfortable clothing like shorts and t-shirts so you can move around freely without feeling restricted. Remember that safety first; wear extra protective gear if playing on harder surfaces like pavement or turf fields.
